Blog written by Kowshik (Devo) Das, Youth Community Animator – TERT, BCS.

From my recent experiences, during a peaceful free Palestine protest at school a classmate got harassed for being Jewish as an influence of the war in the Middle East. Some people found out he was Jewish and went up to him and began saying very inappropriate slurs and walked away, this shows how racism thrives in our school life. It affects us emotionally and socially.
This should not be acceptable at a diverse, educational and divine place like school. The war has nothing to do with this student, then why shall he get harassed for something the student has no control over. We must stand strong, support each other, and make sure everyone feels safe, included and valued. It’s about breaking down harmful ideas and making our school a safe place for everyone.
I want this blog to encourage my community, school members to join the conversation. We have the
power to change things by understanding each other, speaking out against unfairness, and working together for a better future where discrimination has no place, where everyone can feel safe and united. School is for everyone.
